Savikko's Story

Transport Savikko Yhtiöt Oy’s roots go back to the Kiiminkijoki in Ylikiiminki and to the year 1948, when brothers Eero and Lauri Savikko started timber transport to meet the needs of the growing forest industry in the Oulu region.

Savikko’s vehicles transported concrete, insulation, and elements, among other things. The transports were mainly domestic, but some of them already went beyond Finland’s borders. The destinations included Kostamus in Russia, northern Norway, and Sweden.

The history of the family business follows a fairly traditional pattern. The next generation continued along the path set by their fathers. A generational change took place in 1985, when five cousins took over the running of the transport business.

The share of international transport increased during the recovery from the recession of the 1990s. By the 2000s, the company had expanded its operations to cover the Nordic countries and was also transporting to Russia and continental Europe.

The whole of 2000 has been a period of planned and controlled growth, where partnerships in the supply chain, together with our values, have guided the company’s activities. The company has developed into a reliable, trustworthy, and interesting partner for a wide, international, and demanding clientele. The company’s turnover exceeds 40 million euros (2022), and the third generation is involved in the business.

And the story of Savikko still continues…
